The initiative combines heritage, technology, and education to showcase the history, art, and identity of Santiago de los Caballeros

Santiago, Dominican Republic — The Association of Dominican Cigar Manufacturers (PROCIGAR), together with the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Museums, and the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration Museum, presented to the press the Immersive Experience: Santiago de los Caballeros and the Tobacco Tradition, a cultural and educational initiative developed as part of the collaboration agreement between PROCIGAR and the museum.
The project aims to bring national and international visitors closer to the historical, artistic, and cultural richness of the Heart City through the use of Meta Quest virtual reality headsets.
Content of the Experience
Through the headsets, visitors access four audiovisual productions centered on the tobacco tradition as part of Dominican cultural heritage, the murals of artist José Vela Zanetti, Santiago’s cultural tourism, and the historical legacy of the Restoration War, including the connection between the Monument Museum and the Capotillo Cry Monument.
The experience will remain permanently available at the museum, with access for individual visitors, organized groups, as well as schools, universities, and institutions through the museum’s reservation system.
Institutional Statements
Litto Gómez, Vice President of PROCIGAR, stated that supporting this experience reaffirms the organization’s commitment to Dominican culture, noting that premium cigars represent history, tradition, craftsmanship, and national pride in addition to their international standing.
María Belissa Ramírez, Director of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, noted that the collaboration with PROCIGAR also contributed to preserving the site where this history is told.
Access During the Launch
As part of the 162nd anniversary of the Restoration War, during July and August individuals born in the province of Santiago will be able to access the experience free of charge by presenting a valid identification document.
