Arnold André Dominicana is the Dominican manufacturing operation of Arnold André, a German family-owned tobacco company whose corporate history reaches back to 1817. The Dominican factory was established in 2011 in Santiago de los Caballeros, almost two centuries after the company’s original tobacco business was founded in Germany. The facility was created to establish Arnold André’s own production base for premium handmade cigars in the Dominican Republic.

Production at the Santiago facility began with wrapper processing in 2012, while hand-rolled long-filler cigars and 100% tobacco cigarillos began being manufactured there in 2015. The factory was designed around modern manufacturing standards while incorporating Dominican torcedores and local tobacco expertise. Arnold André emphasizes individual quality control, with each handmade cigar inspected before leaving the facility.

The Dominican operation represents an important expansion of Arnold André’s historically German manufacturing model. The parent company developed substantial expertise in machine-made cigars and cigarillos during the 20th century, particularly after Germany lifted its machinery prohibition in 1958. The Dominican facility added a dedicated premium handmade production capability to that industrial base.

The factory operates in Santiago’s Zona Franca Industrial, an area that also houses several of the Dominican Republic’s major cigar manufacturers. By 2025, the facility employed more than 400 local workers and maintained both handmade and machine-made production capabilities. Cigar Coop reported approximately 2.5 million handmade cigars annually, alongside a much larger machine-made operation.

One distinctive element of the factory is its combination of premium handmade cigar production with industrial cigar and cigarillo manufacturing. The facility reportedly operates 124 machines for machine-made production while maintaining a dedicated hand-rolling area. Wrapper processing, including bobbin production, is also performed at the facility.

The Dominican factory produces Arnold André’s principal long-filler brands, including CARLOS ANDRÉ Family Reserve, Buena Vista, Montosa and Parcero. These products allow the company to combine Dominican manufacturing expertise with its established European tobacco business and international distribution network.

Arnold André became an active ProCigar member in 2023, becoming the first German company to join the association. The membership reflects the Dominican factory’s role as a premium cigar manufacturing operation rather than simply a foreign company’s production subsidiary.
